Symptoms are a person's subjective experiences, such as pain, fatigue, or dizziness. On the other hand, signs are objective observations that can be made by a healthcare provider or others, such as a rash, fever, or abnormal vital signs (e.g. heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate).

Here are some examples of symptoms and signs of illness:
Symptoms:

  • 1 ;Headache
  • 2 ;Chest pain
  • 3 ;Nausea
  • 4 ;Fatigue
  • 5 ;Shortness of breath
  • 6 ;Cough
  • 7 ;Fever
  • 8 ;Chills
  • 9 ;Sweating

Signs:

  • 1; Rash
  • 2 ; Swelling
  • 3;Joint pain or stiffness
  • 4; Redness or warmth at a site of infection abnormal
  • 5; Abnormal vital signs (e.g. high fever, low blood pressure)
  • 6; Abnormal laboratory test results (e.g. high white blood cell count)
  • 7; Abnormal physical exam findings (e.g. enlarged liver, abnormal heart sounds)

It's important to note that the presence of symptoms or signs does not necessarily mean that a person is ill. Many conditions can cause similar symptoms and signs, and a healthcare provider will need to evaluate a person's overall medical history and conduct additional tests to determine the cause of their symptoms or signs.
